The GTA Representative Council is the GTA policymaking body comprised of approximately eighty Faculty Representatives. It is composed of at least one representative from each school site in the District. Sites are allotted one representative for each fifteen members. GTA members at each site elect these Faculty Representatives in May for the following year.
Faculty Representatives are the first level of leadership in our Association. They are the key to effective communication among members and the direct link between members, leaders and the Association. Faculty Representatives serve members at their sites by holding meetings, communicating information and distributing literature on current issues, holding site elections, maintaining the GTA bulletin board, and conferring with GTA leadership and site administrators on teacher concerns. They also represent members at the monthly Representative Council meetings where Association and site concerns or issues are discussed and voted upon.
The Association asks much of these hard working, dedicated individuals, and they stand up to the challenge every day. The GTA Faculty Representatives are the backbone of this organization. So if you are looking for a way to get involved find your Faculty Representative and see what you can do to help your Association in the coming year. Remember, elections for Faculty Representatives will be coming up shortly and every member needs to get involved either by putting their name up for nomination or by voting so that GTA remains strong and has input from all members.
Your present Faculty Representatives perform over and above the call of duty. A pat on the back, a thank you, a hug, lunch or a thoughtful compliment would be a great way to extend your thanks for a job well done this year!
