Are You Being Evaluated?
Evaluations shall be conducted at least every other year for permanent employees, triennially for permanent employees utilizing the Portfolio or Partner options, and annually for temporary employees, probationary employees, and permanent employees who have been designated as requiring a professional growth plan.
Plan for Professional Growth
The establishment of a professional growth plan is a critical first step in the evaluation process. The plan should address one of the goal areas in the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. The CSTO standards are:
1. Engages all students in the learning process
2. Creates and maintains effective environments for student learning
3. Understands and organizes content knowledge for student learning
4. Plans instruction and designs effective learning experiences for all students
5. Assesses students learning to determine instruction
6. Develops as a professional educator
7. Fulfills professional responsibilities
The employee shall prepare and submit the Plan for Professional Growth, Part 1 to the evaluator for review by the 30th day of the employee’s contract year. All certificated employees shall complete this plan only during their evaluation years. All employees shall also participate annually in the development of a single, joint grade level or a single, joint department level goal using the Plan for Professional Growth (Part 1 and 2). The development of the group goal shall take place during a regularly scheduled faculty or special purpose meeting.

If you have questions or if something looks unusual, you should contact your GTA Faculty Representative immediately. If you suspect that any observation or evaluation conference will include any derogatory materials, less than satisfactory reports, or possible disciplinary action, you should request a GTA representative to be present at the conference.
