Hello,
School is well underway again and I hope your lives are settling down after the holidays and semester changes. Here are some things to keep in mind this week.
1. Wednesday 1/19 is Rep. Council. See your site rep and give them any ideas or concerns you would like them to bring forward. Better yet, step up to represent your site if you do not have an active representative. Our union is only as strong as our members!
2. Thursday 1/20 is the first School Board meeting this semester. We are making informal strides with the district on the site-based decision-making process with Extended Kindergarten day issue. Please come out to hear the board’s responses and give your input. This issue may set a precedent in how decisions are made that effect teachers and students.
3. Friday, I will meet with the Superintendent about local issues, and then attend Senator Carol Liu’s Roundtable on Teacher and District Effectiveness. It is through teacher participation that the focus is being widened to include the amount of support a teacher receives from the district. It is important for teachers to be present and participate in all discussions on education.
Have a great week and be sure to participate in BTA meetings.
Lori Adams
BTA President
