President’s Update March 20, 2011

Hello!

Welcome back from Spring Break!! This year is flying by.  I can’t believe we are headed to summer soon.  Here are my most important thoughts for you this week.

1. Temp Layoff/Rehire process –Despite our urging to return teachers to permanent status due to attrition, HR will be giving notices to all teachers holding temporary positions by April 2nd.  Then, they will re-hire teachers from this pool for next year.  We have received some information regarding the amount of teachers on leave and those holding temporary positions for them, but we are still waiting for a list of Teachers on Special Assignment and the seniority list of teachers holding temporary positions.  As the process unfolds, please keep us aware of any irregularities that you see so we may follow up with HR and make sure this process is handled correctly.

2. Relay for Life – Make a donation and/or join a team!! This is a 24-hour walk to raise money for the American Cancer Society.  $50 provides lodging for family members of patients receiving treatment.  Go to BUSD United and join a team or form a team for your site.  To make this an even better event, invite a parent to walk with you.  Click on this link to go to the BUSD United page to donate or join a team. http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=team&fr_id=31151&team_id=873020 . Or, go to our website for the flyer: www.burbankteachers.org.

Please join us for this fun unifying event for all in BUSD and raise money to fight cancer.

3.  CTA President–Elect Dean Vogel to visit BTA members!  On Wed. March 30, Dean Vogel will make site visits and come to Rep Council at 3:30 at the BTA Office. I am hoping to visit BHS, Bret Harte Elementary, Luther Middle School, and JBHS.  Check with your site rep for time and location.  If you are not available for the site visits, you can see Dean at Rep Council at 3:30 at the BTA office. Rep. Council is always open to all members.

4.  NegotiationsDue to the uncertainty of events at the moment, I will give you an update on negotiations in my next email.  See our Benchmark newsletter and our website www.Burbankteachers.org for our last updates.

I hope you have had a restful break and are ready for the end of year events and Spring Fever.

Lori Adams

BTA President
